preparing here at sapd for this funeral service of one of their own. you can see behind me the fire department along with police officers trying to secure the area and also just really prepare the person that they are honoring today is a community service officer that worked at the department for years. was long pham and we've got a photo of him on your screen. he passed away earlier this month. he was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver while directing traffic during the overnight hours. funeral services are set to start at around 11 o'clock this morning at the sapd center in san jose, there will be a procession with san jose police and other law enforcement and also the fire department will bring the camera back out here live. this is at the corner of obama boulevard and santa clara street. at some point, this street, santa clara street will be closed off as they will be putting up the flag here with the fire department and the procession is set to begin at some point during the 10 o'clock hour or so. we'll be out here live for the morning to bring you that

him lafleur tunes. former colleague said he is shocked and sad to hear what happened to his friend. yesterday's deadly crash happened around noon. this is on westbound highway 12 in santa rosa. police say the big rig did not stop as it was approaching the intersection of fulton and created a chain reaction. these pieces, 11 cars were involved. one of them a pickup truck catching fire. 9 other people had to be taken to the hospital injuries ranging from minor to moderate. the cause is still being investigated. >> wilbert lee police are now investigating a hate crime after a family-run coffee shop was vandalized 4 times in just one montha coffee shop is inspired by their palestinian american roots. kron 4 sarah stinson got a chance to talk to the owners there. >> the vandalism was caught on video. you can see it here behind me. the owners of java coffee roasters say this is the same vandal has been targeting their free palestine sign. inspired by their palestinian roots and love for fresh brew a 3 brothers from

the north bay quit their 9 to 5 jobs. >> to open a coffee shop in berkeley. joffe a coffee roasters opened their doors in june on university avenue and here maggi nor and their brother sami gath roast their own coffee beans, fake their own pastries and make each cup and experience. they say they poured their heart and soul into their business and it's been a dream come up until a vandal deface their free palestine sign in the front window. this is happened 4 times. yes, by the same person. it was the 4th time that pushed them to reported after the person crossed out palestine and wrote free here. a lot of the community members themselves said like you have report this time, it's something that we actually agreed with. >> when you write free here and there's kids walking by, there's religious institutions and schools all around us. >> and that's just completely completely unacceptable. berkley police are investigating this as a hate crime. this is not going to stop us from serving coffee

i'm sara stinson reporting back to you. >> it 7 is the time. thank you, sara. in the north bay, a man now has been arrested after threatening to shoot students as they were walking to school. police say this happened tuesday morning, right near grange, middle school officers say the man was driving a car and pulled up to 4 students and made these threats. unclear if the kids knew who this person was. but in the end, that person was arrested and booked into solano county jail. there you see thousands of hotel workers across the bay area. they could soon be walking off the job. the possible strike comes after months of failed negotiations with hyatt and hilton hotels. yesterday, a large group of workers have this informational picket outside the hotels in san francisco. workers say they want better wages and benefits and most of all, they want consistent working hours. >> don't have enough job. let

this bill would provide tax incentives that would encourage transforming these empty office spaces into housing. supporters say this could create an additional 14,000 homes in san francisco and would also create more jobs to in the construction field. the governor has until september 30th to decide if he's going to sign that bill. >> and the east bay replacement project finally underway in san leandro after a pedestrian bridge collapsed during a storm. it happened about a year and a half ago kron four's. philippe recall brings us up to speed. >> in the past contractors in san leandro demolished and have been removing whats left of the pedestrian bridge that once connected to neighborhoods at cary drive and haas avenue. took a long time. we were really getting anxious about this since march of last year when at least one large eucalyptus tree landed on the nearly 60 year-old structure, the project to replace the bridge languished in permit purgatory.
