Had the opportunity to volunteer at the Community Health Center of West Palm Beach yesterday. An awesome program where we gave free vaccines, school physicals and more to those in need in the community. As students we were also able to complete the exam, prescribe medications, administer the vaccines and submit the orders/referrals with oversight from the doctors. It was a great learning experience! On my final rotation and really enjoying the autonomy I’ve been able to have here. Looking forward to participating in outreach programs like this as a PA-C!🩺#physicianassistant #student #outreach

As I continue my Doctorate in Public Health at the Medical College of Wisconsin, I often find myself reflecting on the profound legacy that public health initiatives leave behind. My journey in this field began with a simple act in rural Wisconsin – receiving childhood vaccinations from a public health nurse. This nurse, who would later become my MPH preceptor, showed me how small actions in public health can have monumental impacts, creating ripples that extend far beyond their initial touch.Public health is an arena where the smallest deeds – a vaccination, a clean water initiative, an educational program – can grow into significant milestones for community health. These actions, often unnoticed, lay the groundwork for a healthier future, echoing through generations. It’s a testament to the power of collective effort and the ripple effect that one positive change can have on an entire community. The diverse teams in public health, encompassing a range of professionals from various backgrounds, contribute to this legacy daily. Their collaborative work ensures that every small step taken is part of a larger journey towards health equity and a better world for all.Today, on #PublicHealth #ThankYou Day, let’s acknowledge and celebrate these small yet significant actions. Each one contributes to a lasting legacy, impacting lives today and shaping a healthier world for future generations. Together, we are creating ripples of change that will resonate for years to come. #PHTYD

We are our own best advocates and with advocacy, we can move mountains. Residents and fellows of an academic medical center, as part of the Committee of Interns and Residents, have negotiated an agreement with the healthcare system to increase pay by 21%, fund a resident wellness committee, provide fertility benefits and rideshares for fatigued post-call trainees. This victory comes after trainees unionized in 2022 in response to the system’s failure to provide residents access to COVID vaccinations in 2020. The rapid but hard-won outcome is a reminder to physicians of the power of collective voices in bringing about change in healthcare institutions and public policy to combat burnout. How are you planning to join your voice with fellow clinicians to bring about meaningful change in healthcare? #healthcare #healthcareleadership #physicianburnout

New Bedford and Fall River schools just continue to meet whatever student need arises. Barriers to healthcare access and delays in school start are tackled head on through our own innoculation programs. The highest lack of access to healthcare in Massachusetts, as per the report by the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), is in the Southcoast region. This region showed the highest rates of difficulties in accessing care at a doctor's office or clinic, at 31.2%. Additionally, the Southcoast also had the highest rate of unmet healthcare needs due to cost, at 31.3%. Students in their formative years are facing significant challenges in terms of healthcare access compared to other regions in Massachusetts.New Bedford’s in house program has served over 400 students in less than a year. The following article shows how a new partnership between Fall River EMS and city schools tackles the vaccine gap head on with their student vaccination clinic. https://lnkd.in/eu2M6XP4

Did you know Early Childhood Education Services can host a 4-year Health and Development check for children? Administered by dedicated teams within local health districts, this program involves thorough assessments conducted by health professionals. The checks encompass various aspects, including communication skills, social behavior, motor skills, cognitive abilities, and overall physical health.ECEC providers can express interest in hosting the program by contacting their local health district or emailing earlychildhooddevelopment@det.nsw.edu.auIt is important to note that no vaccinations are administered as part of the program. ECEC providers are required to obtain consent from parents or caregivers, and educators will actively support children throughout the checks.Following the checks, a detailed report is provided to guide continued support for the child's growth and development.Source: NSW Health.#EarlyhoodRecruitment#EarlyChildhoodEducation
